Eligibility Criteria
Can I take part in Astro Pi?
To take part in Astro Pi, participants must be:
Aged 19 or younger at the time of submission
Supervised by a mentor such as a teacher, educator, parent, Scout leader, or Code Club or CoderDojo leader, who will need to register for each mission
Enrolled full-time in a primary or secondary school in an ESA Member State, Canada, Latvia, Lithuania, or Slovakia; or a member of a Scout group, coding or after-school club, or certified home school located in an ESA Member State, Canada, Latvia, Lithuania, or Slovakia
Part of a team in which at least 50% of team members are nationals of an ESA Member State, Canada, Latvia, Lithuania, or Slovakia
Mission Zero teams
To take part in Mission Zero, participants must be:
Working individually or in a team of up to 4 young people
Supervised by a mentor who will need to register for a Raspberry Pi account to access their Mission Hub.
Mission Space Lab teams
To take part in Mission Space Lab, participants must be:
Working in a team of 2 to 6 young people.
Supervised by a mentor who will register the team. Note that mentors cannot supervise more than 10 Mission Space Lab teams each.
ESA Member States
Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, and the United Kingdom.
Further to the 22 Member States, also Canada, Latvia, Lithuania, Slovakia, and Slovenia based on their agreements with ESA qualify to fully participate in the programmes of the ESA Education Office.
